HIT CHANNEL EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: October 2011. We had the great luck to talk with one of the greatest modern drummers,Steve Gorman.Steve is well-known as The Black Crowes drummer since their beginning. He has also played with Jimmy Page (in 1999 and 2000 when The Black Crowes backed him on live shows) and Stereophonics.Currently,he’s active with his band Trigger Hippy.Read below the interesting things he told us:
Did you enjoy enjoy the lenghty summer tour with The Black Crowes? How was playing again with Jimmy Page in London’s show?
Yes, I had a great time in Europe. To play with Page again was a real thrill, and very comfortable and familiar at the same time. We feel very lucky to have had the chance to play many times with Jimmy, and anytime it happens is always special.
Are you satisfied by ‘Croweology’ album and the feedback you got for this from fans and press?Do you think it’s yours (Led Zeppelin’s) «III» ?
I never thought of it in terms of Led Zeppelins’ “III”, but I am pleased with the record. It did seem to have a positive response and I think that over time it will hold up very well. That’s all one can ask.
Which are the other music projects you’re involved in?Are you doing any recordings this period?
My band, Trigger Hippy, is coming together now and we will be very busy in 2012.
I love doing the radio show. I started again just recently in Nashville on Sunday nights. These hobbies are definitely less stressful than being in a band!
Many fans disappointed about the «farewell» tour. Will The Black Crowes be again back in action soon?
I have no idea. Only time will tell.
Were difficult the ‘Warpaint’ recordings, the first after the break-up, or it was like the band had never stopped?
They were very easy. We were all excited to be in the studio again after such a long break, and it flowed quickly and productively.
Do you have happy memories from your collaboration with (Greek like me) producer George Drakoulias? How much important was he in The Black Crowes early days?
George’s importance can not be overstated. He gave us our opportunity and steered us into a direction that turned out to be very successful. We owe our careers to him.
With George Martin (ed:The Beatles producer) .
What music do you hear this period?Have you ever heard of Porcupine Tree’s music?
I like Fleet Foxes (ed:Some weeks ago the great John Fogerty went in a concert they gave and said he’s a fan of them) and Wilco – sorry, haven’t heard Porcupine Tree.
What fact about you (musically or not) would surprise fans?
I can’t imagine what fans expect of me, so I wouldn’t know what would surprise them.
Have you ever been in Greece? Send a message to Greek fans.
I have never been, but I’d love to come to Greece. It was always my hope that the Black Crowes would play there but it never worked out. I hope our Greek fans understand that, and I hope they know how much we appreciate their support. Maybe someday!
A huge “THANK YOU” to Steve Gorman.
