HIT CHANNEL INTERVIEW: 24 October 2011. We had the great honour to talk with a legendary musician: Gary Wright. Gary is a very successful keyboardist and singer/ songwriter. He has an amazing solo career, he had done many albums with his late friend, George Harrison (The Beatles guitarist), his song “Better By You, Better Than Me” was covered by Judas Priest, he was a member of Spooky Tooth and during the last years he’s member of Ringo Starr’s All-Starr Band. His latest solo album “Connected” is already in stores and it has some great special guests: Ringo Starr, Joe Walsh (The Eagles) and Jeff “Skunk” Baxter (Steely Dan). Read below the very interesting things he told us:
Are you satisfied from the final result of you latest album ‘Connected’ and the feedback you got for that from fans and press?
Yes, I liked how it turned out and feel it’s one of my best works. The feedback has been great as well.
How difficult was to persuade Ringo Starr,Joe Walsh and Jeff «Skunk» Baxter to participate in ‘Connected’?
Not difficult at all, as they are friends of mine.
Did you enjoy Hippiefest shows? Will you do more solo touring soon to promote ‘Connected’?
The HippieFest shows were a lot of fun and I do plan on doing more shows to promote “Connected”.
During the last years, you are playing with Ringo Starr and His All-Starr Band. Do you feel lucky that you have remained friend for so many years with a so important artist?
Yes, I do feel blessed to have such a wonderful friend as Ringo.
I guess it would be a shock for you ‘All Things Must Pass’ recordings with so many top musicians around? Who impressed you the most? Eric Clapton?
What was your first reaction to Judas Priest cover to your song ‘Better By You, Better Than Me’?
It was good. I like it when other artists interpret my songs.
Had you ever expected that ‘Dream Weaver’ album and single had a so phenomenal success?
No, I didn’t.
Did at any point people confused you with Pink Floyd’s keyboardist Rick Wright?
Is there anyone you’d like to play with and hasn’t happened yet?
What do you remember the most from Isle of Wight Festival 1970? Did you have the luck to meet Jim Morrison?
No, I didn’t meet Jim. All the festivals I played at that time were a lot of fun as music was very fresh then.
Have you ever been in Greece? Send a message to Greek fans.
I’ve been to Greece twice and loved it. I met Rick Wright on Rhodes where the Pink Floyd have homes. I hope to return soon and would love to play there.
A huge “THANK YOU” to Mr Gary Wright.
