HIT CHANNEL EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: June 2011. We had the great luck to talk with one of the best modern drummers, The Cult’s John Tempesta (ex-Exodus, Testament, Rob Zombie,Helmet). John will play his first ever Greek concert in Sunday 5th June at Fuzz Club and we can’t hold our breath. Music is everything for him and read below the interesting things he told us:
How the South America tour went? What are your expectations for the Europe tour?
South America was great! There so musical and definitely some of the best crowds I’ve ever played to.
How was working with Chris Goss? Is he the best producer you’ve worked with?
Chris is amazing! I’ve always been a fan of his work with Masters of Reality. I love the records he’s done with Kyuss & Queens of the Stone Age so it’s a pleasure to work with him. He’s very easy to get along with and has a great ear.
You recently did recordings with Temple of The Black Moon [supergroup with Dani Filth (CRADLE OF FILTH), Rob Caggiano (ANTHRAX, THE DAMNED THINGS), King (formerly of GORGOROTH and OV HELL)]. How the line-up came up? Is this something you were discussing to do it for a long time?
I did demos for Temple of the Moon a few years back when Rob Caggiano was my room mate. We’ve been talking about doing this for a quite a while so hopefully when everyone has time, we can go record a whole record. It’s very Heavy!!!
How close is the new Cult album, now with the signing to Cooking Vinyl Records?
We were just in preproduction before this tour. After the tour, we go back for more pre-production, then start recording the record in July.
Who are your influences as drummer? I guess John Bonham is a major one, right?
I have so many influences. John Bonham of course, Terry Bozzio, Cozy Powell, Simon Phillips, Steve Smith, Brain Downey, Tommy Aldridge, Steve Gadd, Tony Williams, Charlie Benante and many many more…
You have a long thrash metal background. Are you familiar with this music nowadays?
I am a bit familiar with Thrash bands now, but I need to really check out more stuff.
I love Mastodon! I have a wide range, so it all depends on my mood.
You’ve played with many great musicians. Is there anyone you’d like to play with and hasn’t happened yet?
I would love to do something with Dave Grohl. He’s extremely talented.
Send a message to Greek fans who are waiting to see you in Sunday!!
This is my first time to Greece so I’m very excited to play for you guys. I heard the greek fans go nuts so I think it’s going to be a great show!
A huge “THANK YOU” to John Tempesta and his webmaster Chris Hanson for his tremendous help.
