HIT CHANNEL INTERVIEW: June 2011. We had the luck to talk with a great musician,King’s X drummer,Jerry Gaskill. Jerry tells us all this latest news. It’s a shame that King’s X have never played in Greece. Read below the interesting things he told us:

Which are the current projects you’re involved in?
I just recently got back from an amazing tour in Europe with King’s X. I also play around in New Jersey and New York with some great local musicians such as The Bob Burger Band, Sonny Kenn Band, Matt O’Ree Band. Playing with these guys is some of the most fun I’ve ever had playing…

How close is a next solo album, after 2004’s ‘Come Somewhere’?

I’m working on it right now with my good friend Dan Karkos. We have been writing and recording together for some time now and we’re very excited about what we’re doing. I also hope to have a few guest stars playing on it as well…

jerry1You are for about 30 years in Kings’ X. Are you happy by the recognition the band has by fans and press or you think it should be more popular (as I believe too)?

I am very thankful that we’ve been able to do this for so long and continue to do it. Our fans are the best and the little press that we get these days always seems favorable. I’d always like to have more money though…

What exactly did you want to describe when you wrote the short story ‘Gretchen Goes To Nebraska’?
All I ever do is write what’s inside me. I don’t feel I’m trying necessarily to say anything other than what I feel or think at a particular time. And remember every story I’ve written up to this point is fiction. Yet, I find fiction sometimes to be more real than non fiction. If somebody feels something or can relate somehow to something I’ve written, then that makes me feel good. We are all humans and we can all relate to anything human…

Who are your influences as drummer?
I have many influences as a drummer and still continue to be influenced. But my two major influences would have to be Buddy Rich and John Bonham. That combination to me is perfect drumming. You can also throw in Carmine Appice and Don Brewer. I like guys who have a style that is all their own…

Is there any you want to play with and hasn’t happened yet? Maybe with Tom Waits?

I’ve been very fortunate to play with some of the greatest of the greats. I’ve never played with Bob Dylan. If I could choose one artist to play with, it would be him…

jerry2What music do you listen to this period? Did you hear the new Radiohead album?

I have not heard the new Radiohead but I know I need to. I always love Deftones. I’ve been listening a lot to a band called Blackberry Smoke. I’ll be seeing them next week. I recently heard the latest Kanye West record and for some reason that has been one of the most inspiring albums I’ve heard in a long time…

Which is the most important thing you have learned after all these years as professional musician?

I’ve learned nothing lasts forever. And it’s always up to you how your life turns out. If you want something, then you have to make it happen. There is luck but that is exactly what it is…luck. And I think we need a little of all the ingredients that life hands us to be content. But it’s ultimately up to us what we do with what is handed us…

Do you think rock ‘n’ roll has died and now all is about management, contracts and endorsments? So,was Jim Morrison right again?

I’m not sure rock n’ roll can die. I think it’s within us. I think it becomes the very thing that we are. We would have to erase all human existence in order for it to die…

Send a message to Greek King’s X fans.
First, I’m happy to know that there are King’s X fans in Greece. Thanks for listening. I’ve never been to Greece but I would love to. I’d say, gather together and demand that King’s X play in Greece. And keep buying our records. All my love to you all. Thanks again…
